Three separate activities and costs

The old street is a public streetscape; buying a sky lantern is an optional shop service, not an admission ticket to Shifen or its waterfall. Shifen Waterfall Park is a separate free-entry attraction with its own closing and last-entry rules. Confirm those rules in the waterfall guide, not a lantern shop listing.

Alight at Shifen, explore the street beside the station, then use the signed pedestrian route toward the visitor-center/waterfall area and return on foot. Do not use the railway as a shortcut. Allow a separate out-and-back walk; a street-only visit is the lower-walking choice.

Choose the waterfall or the next town

Before walking away from Shifen Station, choose the return service and one later fallback. If the waterfall walk or a queue uses the margin, drop Pingxi town and return from Shifen via Ruifang. If the park is closed, choose street food or continue by the available train; never promise all three activities in one short stop.
