From THSR Taichung Station, use Exit 5, go to the first-floor bus terminal and board the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Sun Moon Lake Route at Platform 3. Allow about 90 minutes and check the live timetable before travel.

This is not one single landmark but a slower movement between lake and mountain views. Shuishe is a practical starting point: a boat toward Ita Thao creates one rhythm, while Xiangshan cycling creates another. Leave a buffer rather than trying to add every stop.
From Taipei to Sun Moon Lake
The simplest public-transport route
Use Taichung as the transfer point—not the final destination. Take high-speed rail to THSR Taichung, then continue directly to the lake by tourist shuttle.
Recommended route
1. Taipei → THSR Taichung
Reserve a southbound HSR train from Taipei to Taichung. Leave transfer time rather than choosing a tight connection.
2. THSR Taichung → Sun Moon Lake
At Exit 5, go down to the first-floor bus terminal and use Platform 3 for the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Sun Moon Lake Route. The bus journey is about 90 minutes.
3. Arrive at Shuishe
Shuishe Visitor Center is the practical arrival point for boats, bicycle rental and local buses. Check the return service before heading around the lake.

- Treat Shuishe Visitor Center as the public-transport arrival point and check your return bus before exploring farther around the lake.
- A bicycle, lake boat or round-lake bus can connect the main areas; you do not need to fit all three into one day.
- Start early if visiting from Taipei, because the trip requires a transfer in Taichung and the last bus matters.
